The mood of the Iraq Petroleum 2019 Conference held in London on 27-28 June 2019 was optimistic.

Iraqi Minister of Oil H.E. Thamir Ghadhban outlined his ambitious aims for Iraq as:

  • End energy imports to Iraq – Iran gas is imported in summer to meet domestic needs;
  • Establish three Iraq oil export routes
    (Basra, Aqaba via Jordan, and a rehabilitated northern line to Turkey);
  • Raise southern export capacity to 6.5 million barrels/day;
  • End gas flaring by 2022 meaning most of the flared gas in Basra will disappear; and
  • Overhaul the refining sector

Tremendous challenges as Iraq continues to rebuild oil & gas infrastructure …
