I attended the first Gas to Power Forum in London on 30 April 2019 hosted by the Petroleum Economist. A diverse audience of industry experts discussed the role of gas in the energy transition.
Learnings from recent LNG regasification & power projects were shared by project managers, financiers and law firms. Small scale engineering solutions now exist for LNG floating storage, regasification, and power units in FSU, FRU, FSRU or FSRPU configurations.
Experts stated that converting natural gas into power presents the fastest, cleanest and most reliable route for governments to meet carbon emission goals replacing coal. However, the political challenge to replace hundreds of thousands of jobs created by the coal industry will need to be addressed in many countries.
